A working trip

Some days being self employed has its perks, things like setting your own schedule and taking your family to work with you. Before having kids it was a lot easier accepting service calls out of state and we could both work. Now it has gotten a lot harder to do these types of things. About a week and half ago a were offered a job in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The job was for the McDonald's Insight Go Live project, which is probably one of the easiest jobs I have seen. Here is the scoop on the job, the night before some techs go in to a Mcdonald's location and upgrade the system (they get all new computer equipment basically registers, monitors, etc.)It is then our job to come in at 6am and check to make sure everything is working the way it is suppose to. We have a 3 page check list that we have to mark off, by visually inspecting the equipment. If we find that something isn't working the way it is suppose to then we call in to tech support and try and troubleshoot it, otherwise they open up a ticket for it. 90% of the time everything is working and there are no issues to report, you might do all in all thirty minutes to an hour of work. Now just because you get done at 7am doesn't mean you get to leave, nope you are stuck there till 1pm. This is because you never know what issues may arise. You can't complain much because you are getting paid to sit at McDonalds, you have wifi and food what more is there?

Originally there were 12 sites in all spread across Idaho, we wanted to do all 12. There was 1 issue with doing ALL 12, there is only two of us. Since we could find anyone to go with us and do the other 4 sites we just did 8 (you can only do 1 a day). Now this posed a question as to what we were going to do with the kids, you really can't take two small children with you to work. Our first idea was to find some kind of drop in daycare in the areas that we would be at, but alas we had no luck. In the end I kept the kids with me, thank you Lord for play places. This was one of those trips I was glad to have good babies. For seven hours Kyle was mostly confined to a high chair, I mean sadly I can't let him run around the store. I felt like a bad mom at some points, but I knew that this money would help us out a lot. At each store I would take Kyle outside to the play place for awhile, now he hates the tunnels and will just break down in tears crying. Most of the time the play places were outside and it was kinda cold in the mornings, but at our last store in Idaho Falls it was an indoor play place(and it didn't have a door). So I set up shop in the play place. I let the manager know where I was and if they had any issue where to find me. This also meant that on our last day Kyle was able to crawl around and play, not be confined to a high chair. He loved it, he even got over his fears of the tunnels. All in all it was a good trip even though it was highly stressful. I am glad that God gave us the opportunity to do this work and that I got to see some old friends that gave us a place to sleep for 2 nights.

Now would I do it again, yes but I would try harder to find a babysitter for Kyle and Sariah.
