Pumpkin Carving

Growing up my family never really celebrated halloween, with understandable reasons. I did get to go to our church's fall festivals which was a lot of fun. There were games, candy and I got to get dressed up. As fun as those were, and now I get to take Kyle and Sariah to our church trunk or treat, I missed out on one big thing. Can you guess what it is? Yeah I know the blog title gives it away...carving a pumpkin!

At this point you are probably saying to yourself, really? Maybe to most people it seems like a small thing, but it's something that I have always wanted to do. Until now my only experience with a pumpkin was last year making pumpkin soup. Talk about some hard work gutting and skinning a pumpkin. The soup was amazing and we plan on making it again this year as well.

Well last night was the last Sugar House Farmer's Market for the year and they were offering pumpkin carving for $1. When I saw that I was so totally excited and I told Vincent that no matter what I wanted to carve a pumpkin with Kyle. So around 7pm we headed up to the farmer's market, along with Maggie. I was hoping they still had pumpkins to carve since it was so close to closing time. I left Kyle with daddy while I went and checked, and sure enough they had one "imperfect" pumpkin left. I say that it's imperfect because it kinda leans, which I guess could sum up my life.

Anyway, I went over and asked Vincent for a $1 and took Kyle over to the table with me. Kyle wasn't a lot of help, but he did pick out the mouth and sorta hold the tools with mommy's help. I can't really ask a lot of a 15 month old, nor give him a pumpkin and say have your way with it. So after about 5-10 minutes our pumpkin was done, and now it perfect.

So now I can finally mark off carving a pumpkin from my list of things to do before I die.
